NEWS: FORGET GUYS, TAYLOR SWIFT’S BEEN SINGING ABOUT HER HAIR ALL ALONG

THERE'S A REASON ALL THOSE LYRICS POP INTO HER HEAD SO EASILY. THE INSPIRATION IS LITERALLY BUILT IN.

It’s no secret that Taylor Swift is a freakin’ connoisseur of feels. At just 26, Tay has already been there, back, and got the t-shirt through the full rainbow scale of emotions (but mostly RED), and she’s told us all about it time and time again with her array of heartbreak anthems.

Her “boys drool” message is canon for the Swifty squad at this point, and she’s basically reduced us all to a pack of gossip journos who pick apart every line in of her latest hopes of matching it to whatever much-fussed break-up she’s been through.
But we’re starting to notice a second layer of trend to her prized discography: There’s a surprisingly tight correlation between her words and whatever hairstyle she’s been going with in the era of release (yes, even her Anna Wintour redux bob of now).
Let’s review:

SHE STARTED WITH THE COUNTRY GIRL CURL.
Taylor Swift
When Taylor first broke onto the scene in 2006, she barely qualified for a driver’s license, age-wise, so of course her look was of the 100% cute-and-sweet persuasion. Her song “Tied Together With A Smile” from her first album was basically just a synopsis of her style. Consider these lyrics: “That you might not be the golden one/ And you’re tied together with a smile/ But you’re coming undone.” See what we mean? Total tribute to the tousle.THEN SHE TRIED AGING IT UP A SMIDGE.

It didn’t take long for Swifty to realize that in addition to being America’s Southern Sweetheart, she was also pretty hot stuff. She soon found a way to keep her sweet ’lil starlet look but tighten up her ringlets enough to turn some heads, and the lyrics to “Mary’s Song (Oh My My My)” are perfectly on point for what she was doing here: “Well, I was sixteen when suddenly/ I wasn’t that little girl you used to see.” Mmmmhmmm.

EVENTUALLY, SHE STARTED TO PULL IT BACK AND SHOW OFF HER FACE A LITTLE MORE.

Tay earned an “E” for effort with this loose up-do maneuver in 2007. She was basically taking her “Untouchable” lyrics to tress form with this one: “Untouchable, burning brighter than the sun/ And when you’re close I feel like coming undone.”

SHE FINALLY TOOK A BREAK FROM HER SPRUNCE CRUNCH, 'DO.

It wasn’t the last we’d see of her wavy mane — she and her beach locks were the Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber of human-hair relationships — but it was a start on the straight and narrow path. Her track “Breathe” was basically a love song about (temporarily) losing her signature squiggles: “Now I don’t know what to be without you around/ And we know it’s never simple, never easy/ Never a clean break, no one here to save me/ You’re the only thing I know like the back of my hand/ And I can’t breathe without you/ But I have to.”

AND REMEMBER WHEN SHE FINALLY MADE NICE WITH A FLAT IRON IN 2010?

It was her first real haireinvention, and she sang all about it in “Innocent”: “Minds change like the weather/ I hope you remember/ Today is never too late to be brand new.” That song might’ve been meant as a forgiveness ballad for Kanye West on the surface, but really it was just about her newfound frizz-free-ness.

THEN CAME HER OWN BIG BANG THEORY.

Taylor went for it with the forehead-covering fringe at the 2010 American Music Awards, and her “State of Grace” lyrics seem perfectly in tune with what was happening in that exact moment: “We are alone with our changing minds/ … And I never (never) saw you coming/ And I’ll never (never) be the same.” Indeed.

AND OF COURSE SHE ONCE WENT LITERAL WITH THE RED THING.

Tay didn’t go Rihanna red or anything, but she did ditch her usual hue for this ’do, and while you might *think* her fourth album Red was an eff you letter to Jake Gyllenhaal and whoever else broke the precious in half, there’s a strong chance the entire album was actually just devoted to this brief mop moment. Consider the lyrics to “Red” which we’d previously pegged as a colorful capture of her passionate love affair with you-know-who: “When I still see it all in my head/ In burning red/ Burning, it was red.”

HER BEACH PRINCESS LOOK WAS ACTUALLY LIKE A SONG.

“The Moment I Knew” described Tay’s 2011 Billboard Music Awards look perfectly, when she sang: “And it was like slow motion/ Standing there in my party dress/ In red lipstick/ With no one to impress.”

THEN CAME THE SHAGGY SHOULDER-LENGTH STYLE.

By 2014, Tay was ready for a change. That included a move to New York and this chop-and-swoop ’do that would last longer than 9/10ths of her boyfs. Her “Welcome to New York” lyrics hit the spot for this cut’s inspiration: “Like any great love it keeps you guessing/ Like any real love it’s ever changing.”

SHE ALSO HAD THAT SEXY SCHOOL MARM THING GOING ON FOR A HOT MINUTE.

Tay’s “Style” inspiration was pretty blatant here: “I got that good girl faith and a tight little skirt.” That line is essentially a pre-populated caption for this photo. Just sayin’.

AND LET'S NOT FORGET THE SEVERE SWOOP A LA THE 2015 MTV MUSIC VIDEO AWARD.

We’re pretty sure the line that was running through her mind during every photo line snap of her side-slick look here was from “Sweeter than Fiction”: “There you’ll stand, ten feet tall/ I will say, ’I knew it all along’/ Your eyes wider than distance/ This life sweeter than fiction.”

FINALLY, HERE WE ARE AT THE TRIM-BANG-BOB.
Taylor Swift Vanity Fair Oscar Party
Tay didn’t originate “Bette Davis Eyes,” but she sure did capitalize on the relevance of these lyrics when she went for this drastic chop-off: “Her hair is Harlow gold, her lips sweet surprise/ Her hands are never cold, she’s got Bette Davis eyes/ She’ll turn the music on you, you won’t have to think twice/ She’s pure as New York snow, she got Bette Davis eyes.” Because what does this hairstyle really emphasize? Yep, her eyes.
